The hostel was remodeled and reopened in 1934 under its actual name "Hotel Francia". During all these years, it has received many distinguished guests, such as the famous writer D. Later it was occupied by the Mixtecs until some time before the arrival of the Spanish. In its time of splendor, Monte Alban extended over a surface of 6.5 square kilometers and had a population of approximately 40,000 inhabitants. Over an immense esplanade are the pyramids, temples, various partios, palaces and a ball court. Tombs containing righ ornaments were uncovered including the famous Tomb 7 with rich offering in its interior found by Alfonso Caso. It is the most importan archaeological site of Oaxaca and one of the most relevant of Mesoamerica. Route to MItla and Santa Maria del Tule - 14 KM north to the property. The main attration of this village is the Sabino or Ahuehuete tree, some 2,000 years old with a height of 40 meters, the trunk has a width of 42 meters diameter, a volume of 705 cubic meters and a approximate weight of 509 tons: this tree is the biggest in the world. Cuilapan de Guerrero - 16 KM west to the property.
